If you want to learn more about railway modelling then I recommend Hornby Magazine, and not just because of my articles! It not only covers basic techniques in an easy to understand format but also includes some excellent layouts to show what can be achieved.
If you are adverse to parting with cash, the the best free resource for any railway modeller with internet access has to be RMweb. This internet forum has contributions from some excellent modellers, who are happy to help and advise on any topic. The forum is free to read, free to join and completely invaluable.
