Model railway electrics seems to be regarded as a black art by many people. In reality the individual circuits and components are quite simple, the complexity comes from the fact that they can be repeated many times over on even a simple layout, leading to an impenetrable rats' nest of wires.

I have written a series of articles on the subject for Hornby Magazine. Clicking here will take you to the Hornby Magazine website to order a back numbers.

HM Issue 30 (December 2009)
came with a 24 page supplement
containing a number of the electrics
articles from the magazine.

A book covering basic electrics has been published as part of Ian Allan's Aspects of Modelling series. See the books section for details. Plans are affot for a DVD too - watch ths space!
